Ted and Cookie Palmer of Gainesville announce the engagement of their daughter Laura Palmer to Jason Hughes, son of Steve and Lisa Hughes of Lawrenceville.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of H.B. and Jean Barnes of McRae, Mildred Ann Palmer of Waynesboro and the late John T. Palmer Jr.

She is a 2004 graduate of North Hall High School in Gainesville. She plans to graduate in May 2009 from Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville with a bachelor's degree in mass communication. She is employed as a marketing intern with Chick-fil-A in Duluth and Suwanee.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Joe and Virginia Hughes of Monroe and Richard and Joyce Mabry of Loganville.

He is a 2004 graduate of Brookwood High School in Snellville. He graduated in 2008 from Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville with a bachelor's degree in special education. He is employed as a special education teacher with Gwinnett County Public Schools in Lawrenceville.

The couple plan to wed June 6, 2009, at Westminster Church in Gainesville.
