Dr. and Mrs. Douglas R. Owens of Rutherfordton, N.C., announce the engagement of their daughter Miss Emily Allison Owens to Mr. James Corbly McCoun Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. James C. McCoun Sr. of Gainesville.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harl Owens of Ellenboro, N.C., and the late Mr. and Mrs. Richard Andrew Setzer.

She is a 2004 graduate of Thomas Jefferson Classical Academy in Mooresboro, N.C. She graduated in 2008 from Furman University in Greenville, S.C., with a bachelor’s degree in sociology.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Mrs. Thomas B. McCoun Jr. of Decatur, the late Mr. Thomas B. McCoun Jr. and the late Mr. and Mrs. Frank J. Haddon.

He is a 2004 graduate of North Hall High School in Gainesville. He graduated in 2008 from Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., with a bachelor’s degree in political science. He is employed as a campus minister with Campus Outreach Greenville in Clinton.

The couple plan to wed April 18, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Forest City, N.C.
