Thomas Kubala and Kathy Oxford of Gainesville announce the engagement of their daughter Emily Kathryne Kubala to Brandon Luis Thomas, son of Phyllis Thomas of Milton, Fla., and the late Jon Thomas.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Birch and Kathryne P. McVay of Gainesville, the late Charles B. Oxford and the late Anthony and Arline Kubala.

She is a 2001 graduate of West Hall High School in Oakwood. She graduated in 2005 from the University of Georgia in Athens with a bachelor's degree in environmental economics and management. She is employed as a director of resource conservation management with Baldor Electric Co. in Fort Smith, Ark.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Margaret Saccani of Rocky Mount, N.C., the late Alvin Lawrence and the late Arthur and Eleanor Thomas.

He is a 2000 graduate of Milton High School in Milton. He is employed as a plant manager with Best Industrial Pallets in Fort Smith.

The couple plan to wed April 24, 2010, at Santa Rosa Beach in Florida.
