Faye Kirkland of Gainesville and Jimmy Kirkland of Blairsville announce the engagement of their daughter Kelli Kirkland to Phillip Dean Mayfield II, son of Phillip and Donna Mayfield of Union, S.C.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Edna King of Oglethorpe and the late Oliver and Edith Kirkland.

She is a 1995 graduate of Gainesville High School in Gainesville. She graduated in 1999 from Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., with a bachelor's degree in mathematics and secondary education. She is employed as the women's coordinator with Campus Outreach in Greenville, S.C.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Velma Mayfield of Edmond, Okla., the late Paul Mayfield and the late Edith and Ivan Elliott.

He is a 2000 graduate of Union High School in Union. He graduated in 2004 from Western Carolina University in Cullowhee, N.C., with a bachelor's degree in sports management. He is employed as a youth leader with Westminster Presbyterian Church in Clinton.

The couple plans to wed May 10, 2008, at Chestnut Mountain Presbyterian Church in Chestnut Mountain.
