Josephine Hurt of Marietta announces the engagement of her daughter Jeanette Rivers Hurt to Stephen Rainey Gurr, son of Ann Westbrook of Atlanta and Steve and Rebecca Gurr of Gainesville. The bride-elect is the daughter of the late James Hurt.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Eural and Jeanette H. Clippard of Wytheville, Va., the late Jacob Hurt and the late St. Julian and Delmar Rivers.

She is a 1997 graduate of Pebblebrook High School in Mabelton. She graduated in 2004 from Georgia State University in Atlanta with a bachelor's degree in psychology. She received a master's degree at Argosy University in Atlanta in counseling.

The groom-elect is the grandson of the late Bill and Claire Westbrook and the late Charlie and Carmen Gurr.

He is a 1990 graduate of Gainesville High School in Gainesville. He graduated in 1993 from Gainesville College with an associate degree in general studies. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Georgia in Athens in 1995. He is employed as a reporter with The Times in Gainesville.

The couple plan to wed Nov. 7, 2009, at St. Paul United Methodist Church in Gainesville.
