Deena Emerson announces her engagement to Michael Looper, son of Dan and Debra Looper of Gainesville. Deena is the daughter of the late Dolores and Duane Smudz.

The bride-elect is a 1991 graduate of Normandy High School in Parma, Ohio. She graduated from Indiana Wesleyan College in Cleveland, Ohio, with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. She is employed as a tax planning specialist in the Cleveland, Ohio, area. The groom-elect is the grandson of J.W. and Sandi Baker of Oakwood, Dave and Marthaline Looper of Gainesville and the late Johnnie I. Baker. He is a 1997 graduate of North Hall High School in Gainesville. He is attending Gainesville State College in Oakwood pursuing a degree in computer science. He is self-employed.

The couple plans to wed April 25, 2008, in Savannah.
