Dr. and Mrs. Clayton Cox of Gainesville announce the engagement of their daughter Miss Ashley Lane Cox to Jason Philip Walters, son of Mr. and Mrs. Michael Richards of Gainesville.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Dr. and Mrs. Frank Lake Sr. of Gainesville, Mrs. William Hill of Forsyth and the late Mr. Lawrence Cox. She is the great-granddaughter of Mrs. S.W. Plauché Jr. of Gainesville.

She is a 2001 graduate of Providence Christian Academy in Lilburn. She graduated in 2005 from Samford University in Birmingham, Ala., with a bachelor's degree in journalism and mass communication. She is employed as a reporter with Jacobs Media Corporation in Gainesville.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Hudgins of Gainesville, the late Mrs. Florene Hudgins and the late Mr. and Mrs. Dewey Richards.

He is a 2001 graduate of North Hall High School in Gainesville. He graduated in 2006 from Reinhardt College in Waleska with a bachelor's degree in organizational leadership. He is employed as a program director with the Georgia Mountains YMCA in Gainesville.

The couple plan to wed Jan. 24, 2009, at First Baptist Church in Gainesville.
