George Walther and Carolyn Cathey Brinson of Gainesville announce the engagement of their daughter Catherine Louise Brinson to Joseph Wesley Bruce, son of Kathryn Forkner Bruce of Atlanta and Milton Joseph and Mary Ellen Bruce of Dawsonville.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Paul Howard and Margaret Walther Brinson of Gainesville, and the late Bob Bryan and Peggy Sheridan Cathey.

She is a 1999 graduate of Gainesville High School in Gainesville. She graduated in 2003 from the University of Georgia in Athens with a bachelor's degree in public relations. She plans to graduate in 2008 from Brenau University in Gainesville with a master's degree in early childhood education. She is employed as a third-grade teacher at Sugar Hill Elementary School in Gainesville.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Alfreida Quay Forkner of Avondale, the late John Candler Forkner and the late Joseph Ward and Mary Frances Bruce.

He is a 1998 graduate of Duluth High School in Duluth. He attended Western State College in Gunnison, Colo.

The couple plans to wed June 21, 2008, at First United Methodist Church in Gainesville.
