Jim and Annette Black of Gainesville announce the engagement of their daughter Melissa Erin Black to David Anderson Dunlap Jr., son of David Sr. and Eleanor Dunlap of Gainesville.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Olivia Whelchel of Gainesville, the late Ben Whelchel, Gladys Black of Acworth and the late Edgar "Mutt" Black.

She is a 2004 graduate of Gainesville High School in Gainesville. She graduated in 2008 from Brenau University in Gainesville with a bachelor's degree in studio art. She is employed as an administrative assistant with the Gainesville Ballet in Gainesville. She is a member of Zeta Tau Alpha sorority.

The groom-elect is the grandson of George and Kathrine Long of Lookout Mountain, Tenn., Edgar B. Dunlap of Gainesville and the late Anne Dunlap.

He is a 2004 graduate of Gainesville High School in Gainesville. He graduated in 2009 from Auburn University in Auburn, Ala., with a bachelor's degree in industrial design. He is a member of Kappa Alpha fraternity.

The couple plan to wed Nov. 7, 2009, at Antioch Methodist Church Campground in Gainesville.
