Frank and Peggy Beekman of Oakdale, N.Y., announce the engagement of their daughter Amanda Susan Beekman to Tyler Grant Dunagan, son of Bradley and Mary Dunagan of Gainesville.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Bernice Herzhauser of Oakdale, N.Y., the late Richard Herzhauser and the late Virginia and Willard Beekman.

She is a 2004 graduate of Connetquot High School in Bohemia, N.Y. She graduated in 2008 from St. Joseph's College in Hatchogue, N.Y., with a bachelor's degree in early childhood and special education. She is employed as a teacher with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg school system in Charlotte, N.C.

The groom-elect is the grandson of Donna Grant of Gainesville, the late Robert Grant and the late Ida Lou and George Dunagan.

He is a 2004 graduate of North Hall High School in Gainesville. He graduated in 2008 from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy in Kings Point, N.Y., with a degree in logistics and intermodal transportation. He is employed as a towboat steersman with Kirby Inland Marine in Houston. He is an officer in the U.S. Navy Reserve.

The couple plan to wed Oct. 3, 2009, at the Pavilion at Sunken Meadow in Kings Park, N.Y.
