Jeb and Rosemary Bates of Gainesville announce the engagement of their daughter, Meredith O’Neal Bates to John Baxter McWhirter, son of Tom and Rae McWhirter of Atlanta.
The bride-elect is the granddaughter of the late James Emile Sr. and Lucille Suddath Bates, the late Daniel Hugh Haynes, George Everett Hope of Gainesville and the late Lois Little Hope.
She is a 2007 graduate of North Hall High School in Gainesville. She graduated in 2011 from the Medical College of Georgia with a Bachelor of Science degree in nursing and will graduate from Mercer University with a Master of Science degree in nursing as a family nurse practitioner in December. She is employed as a labor and delivery registered nurse certified in inpatient obstetrics at Piedmont Hospital in Atlanta.
The groom-elect is the grandson of the late Thomas Frederick Sr. and Margaret McGinn McWhirter, the late Ernest McCray Sr. and Helen Trulock Dennis Weeks and the late John Alvin Dennis.
He is a 2005 graduate of Whitefield Academy in Atlanta. He graduated in 2010 from Auburn University with a Bachelor in Business Administration degree with a concentration in marketing. He is employed as a senior associate at PMRG Commercial Real Estate Firm in Atlanta.
The couple plan to wed on Aug. 5, 2017, in Highlands, N.C.
