Larry and Betty Barrett of Flowery Branch announce the engagement of their daughter Brittany Anne Barrett to James Daniel Means, son of Mike and Carol Means of Cornelia.

The bride-elect is the granddaughter of Annie Burrell of Demorest, the late Henry B. Burrell, Nora Barrett of Clarkesville and the late Cecil J. Barrett.

She is a 2004 graduate of Flowery Branch High School in Flowery Branch. She graduated in 2009 from the University of Georgia in Athens with a bachelor's degree in middle grades education. She is employed as a teacher in the Barrow County school system.

The groom-elect is the grandson of James and Doris Jones of Cornelia, Hilda Means of Toccoa and the late Joseph Means.

He is a 2004 graduate of Habersham Central High School in Mount Airy. He is pursuing a bachelor's degree in landscape architecture from the University of Georgia in Athens.

The couple plan to wed Dec. 12, 2009, at Hopewell Baptist Church in Gainesville.
