Ellen Vandolah Head Waters and Douglas Clark Waters Sr. of Jefferson celebrated their 50th anniversary on June 14, 2008. A reception held in their honor at their daughter's home in Athens was hosted by their daughters Ellen Kimberly Waters and Jan Waters Goggans and family friend Sallie Ruth Duhling.

The couple met while attending Gainesville High School and graduated in the class of 1958. They eloped shortly thereafter and settled in Jefferson in 1964.

The couple have two daughters Ellen Kimberly Waters and Jan Waters Goggans, seven grandchildren, and had a son, the late Douglas Clark Waters Jr.
