Retired Col. John and Barbara Avery of Hoschton celebrated their 50th anniversary on June 10, 2010. A reception was held in their honor at Grace Church in Gainesville and was given by their children Angela Brisendine, Jill Scoville, John Avery and Linda Wood.

The couple have four children, nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
