The Arts Council kicks off its annual Movies on the Green series with a showing of "Hotel for Dogs" today at the Smithgall Arts Center in downtown Gainesville.

The free, family-friendly event starts at dusk. Food and drink is available for purchase, and gates open at 7:30 p.m. Families may also bring a picnic dinner or snacks, and alcohol is permitted.

Then, mark your calendar for the second movie night on Aug. 6 when The Arts Council presents "Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian."
