The Jesters will bring their high energy show back to Gainesville on Saturday, all for a good cause.
The third annual Evening with The Jesters will benefit Glory, Hope & Life, a nonprofit whose mission is to enrich the lives of those in the community touched by cancer through resources, programs and activities that promote a sense of well-being, self esteem and an improved quality of life.
The Jesters were formed in 1964 with five high school band members and friends.
The original group played locally in Athens until they reformed in 1967 with eight of the current 10 pieces. In 1968, they recorded an album featuring songs of then-current rhythm and blues hits.
Touring throughout the southeast between 1967 and 1970, The Jesters performed with hit recording artists including Marvin Gaye, The Platters, The Marvellettes, Jerry Butler, Patti LaBelle and Jackie Wilson, among others.
The Jesters disbanded in 1970 and reunited in 1982, featuring most of the original members. The band maintains its enthusiasm for the music and the style of the '60s, featuring hit songs that are classified as rhythm and blues, soul and beach music.
Saturday night's event at the Chattahoochee Country Club kicks off at 7 p.m. with shag dancing lessons and a silent auction. The Jesters will take the stage at 8 p.m.
Tickets, available for $75 each, also include a buffet-style dinner.
Glory, Hope & Life represents the combined work of three once separate organizations: For Her Glory, Harvest of Hope and Embracing Life. Together, Glory, Hope & Life continues to work locally to provide opportunities and support for cancer patients, families and caregivers. For more information, visit its website.
