Local singer/songwriter wins trip to Los Angeles

Allison Weiss.

She came to the competition with just an acoustic guitar, but her playing was enough to win over the crowd and judges.

Allison Weiss, a Gainesville native who now performs with her band around Athens, won the Southeast region in the Campus MusicFest competition, which took place at the end of March at Center Stage in Atlanta. She competed against three other bands, but in the end, her songwriting won out.

Her next stop is Los Angeles in June, where she will compete for the national championship and a mess of prizes, including a new computer and music editing software, a custom CMF Epiphone guitar and access to record label executives, along with cash prizes.

As part of her win in Atlanta, she gets her song, “I’m Ready,” available as a ringtone on iTunes.

The competition is part of Campus MovieFest, a national Internet-based competition that involves colleges from across the country.
