Bring your picnic dinner, a ball or Frisbee and your friends and family on Friday to Gainesville State College. The school will be holding its Starlight Concert & Fireworks Show starting at 6 p.m. at the amphitheater.

“We offer a beautiful venue for folks to come together and enjoy family and friends in a casual, fun environment,” said Sloan Jones, communications director for Gainesville State College. “... They can have their picnics and bring their picnic chairs and blankets and all of that and hang out by our lower lake.”

The Power Play Band will start off the night performing a variety of party favorites.

“They can do all the standard favorites and get the crowd involved,” Jones said.

At dusk, around 9:15 p.m., fireworks begin. Gates close at 8:30 p.m. to ensure easy traffic flow at the end of the night, so if you want to enjoy the show from the college, plan ahead.

Pets and tobacco products are not allowed on the campus, but concertgoers can bring coolers.

The event is a fundraiser for the college’s alumni association, and money from parking fees goes toward scholarships.

“That’s the underlying thing here, is that we want to provide scholarships to deserving students,” Jones said.
