It is an annual tradition at this point — close to 20 years have passed since Elachee Nature Science Center started its safari-themed fundraiser dinner — which means patrons have come to expect it.

But this year, the dinner will take on even more significance as it ties in the center's 30th anniversary this year.

"This is the fundraiser we do every year, but we have some things related to our birthday," said Lavon Callahan, director of development and communications at Elachee Nature Science Center. "We'll have a big cake, we've designed some (auction) packages that have threes in them — three decades kind of thought. Nothing super formal but more to remind people that 30 years is a long time for an organization to be around. We're pretty proud of it."

The 30th anniversary is something Elachee will be celebrating through the end of the year, Callahan said. Other attractions at Saturday's fundraiser include an extensive live and silent auction with more than 100 items up for grabs, live jazz music and a homemade low country boil.

"It is served by Elachee staff members to our guests," Callahan said. "It is a great chance to celebrate fall and a good cause. Items that are in the auction are donated by area businesses; we have a long list of supporters who are very generous with us."
