The Jefferson Community Theatre group's inaugural season opens Friday with a production of "Steel Magnolias." It follows the play written by Robert Harling, who also wrote the book of the same title.

Harling's tale was made famous by the movie starring Sally Field, Julia Roberts and Dolly Parton.

Set in Louisiana, the story follows the lives of six women and the friendships they build in Truvy's hair salon.
