Music and family fun aimed at creating good works in the community will fill the air at The Celebrate Service Music Festival Friday and Saturday.
The event is part of the Gwinnett Great Days of Service. Volunteers and supporters of local nonprofits, ministries and service organizations will be on hand for a Saturday of free music, food and family events.
The weekend begins with the golf classic from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Friday at the Legacy on Lanier course at Lake Lanier Islands Resort, 7000 Holiday Road. Fees are $150 for individuals, $300 for two-person teams and $600 for four-person teams. Included are a boxed lunch, cookout dinner, drinks and prizes.
Saturday, 11 bands are scheduled to perform from 10 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Suwanee Town Center Park, 370 Buford Highway, Suwanee. The festival will include kids' inflatables, food from local restaurants, a nonprofit fair, prizes and awards.
Performers are scheduled to include Voices of the Spirit at 10 a.m.; Sugarhill UMC Praise Band at 10:45 a.m.; North Gwinnett High School Drumline at 11:30 a.m.; Full Circle Band at 12:15 p.m.; Breakdown Band at 1 p.m.; Jordan Humphrey at 1:45 p.m.; Shae Laurel at 3 p.m.; Chasing Grace with Kevin Wyglad at 4 p.m.; Banks and Shane at 5:15 p.m.; 12Stone at 6:30 p.m.; and Unhindered at 8 p.m.
Other Saturday events include the Pedal for the Poor 30-mile bike ride at 8 a.m.; Strides for Strength 5K run at 9 a.m.; Soccer Shootout 3-on-3 tournament at 10 a.m.; Pedal for the Poor Family Ride at 1 p.m.; Corn Hole two-man bean bag tournament at 2 p.m.; and Cooking for a Cause Dessert Challenge at 3 p.m.
For $20, anyone can participate in unlimited events throughout the day. Groups can register six people for $100 for unlimited participation for each. T-shirts, food and sponsor coupons and prizes will be offered for each.
In addition, organizations will be given information on setting up a fundraising page to support their cause and solicit sponsors. Prizes will be awarded to the groups that raise the most and come up with the most creative techniques.
Also for $100, groups will be given 300 square feet of space to promote their organizations and projects, recruit volunteers and raise funds.
