The largest, longest party in the Southeast is about to start — it’s time for Oktoberfest in Helen.

Ah, yes — evenings of polkas, bustling beer gardens and ... mini golf? Well, perhaps Helen isn’t exactly the most authentic Bavarian experience, but it sure is a heck of a lot easier to get there than Germany.

Helen’s Oktoberfest officially starts today, but really kicks things off at noon Saturday when the Oktoberfest parade winds through downtown.

Oktoberfest continues through Nov. 2, with free admission on Sundays into the beer halls. Admission charges apply during the week, where it’s $7 Monday through Friday and $9 on Saturdays. If you’d like a coupon for $1 off admission, visit Greater Helen Area Chamber of Commerce.
