Thompson: In a pinch, use wasp spray for pepper spray

Pepper spray is a great criminal deterrent. If you don't have any with you and you're concerned someone may try to break into your house, consider using wasp spray. Odds are that you have some in your garage. Let me be clear here, pepper spray is better. However, wasp spray can be effective if someone is breaking into your home.

If you're a traveler, you need to get the book "The Smart Traveler's Passport." It's from the editors of Budget Travel magazine and it has 399 great travel tips. It's available for $15. I rarely endorse tip books, but this is a good one.

A great way to tighten a loose screw is to apply clear nail polish to the threads of the screw and re-insert it.

If you get some super glue stuck to your skin, here's how you get it off. Apply some acetone-based nail polish remover to a cotton ball and hold it next to your skin until the glue comes off. Here's another tip. Always keep a supply of latex gloves in your workshop. They're cheap and will keep the super glue off of your hands.
