Prom season primer: Where to get dress, makeup and hair done

As prom season quickly approaches, malls, dress shops and consignment stores fill with teenage girls frantically looking for a dress.

The designs become a sea of ideas: mermaid style, sweetheart necklines, trumpet, tea line, ball gown, high-lows and the list goes on and on.

Dresses are only the start of the troubles and worries. Hair, makeup, nails, accessories and even the simple thought of the way a girl should pose or what is in fact her “good side” is on a teenage girl’s mind day and night.

Put your mind at ease, because Young Edge has you all covered. We have compiled a list of some of the best dress shops, makeup artists and salons in the area.

• “Girli Girl Boutique” is in downtown Buford. The boutique showcases some of the finest ball gowns and trendy styles. Girli Girl sales associate and Flowery Branch High School sophomore AnaGrace Smathers describes her place of work as “a girl’s dress heaven.”

The store is equipped with designers such as: Sherri Hill, Angela & Alison Prom, as well as Blush and several more. GGB is also one of the only boutiques in the area to invest in plus-size dresses too!

• April McBroom, an award-winning pageant contestant, spoke highly of Cinderella’s Gowns, describing her experiences as “refreshing” compared to other hectic dress shops.

“Cinderella’s Gowns always gives a wonderful experience each year. They make prom season a
breeze for me,” she said.

• Matthew and Co. Salon is an excellent choice for hair this season. The salon has its own prom/bridal hair team that specifically focuses on those elegant and occasion hairstyles. Matthew and Co. client Madison Chambers tells Young Edge, “The salon takes cut and color to a whole new level. If girls are looking for a new or different look for prom, this is where they need to be.” MCS describes itself as, “Often Imitated but never Duplicated.”

• The glam squad needs to be in full effect when it comes to prom season. Both hair and makeup can be done at Salon Pure Aveda. Pure is based in plenty of areas but the most local one is in Flowery Branch. The staff is running an awesome special for prom-going girls this year. It is $85 for both hair and a full-face makeup application. Lauren Boyd is a stylist at the salon and was described as “the best in town,” “a true makeup artist” and “a color guru” by a few of her clients. The salon is located in the Flowery Branch Stonebridge Village.

Young Edge has three high school girls on staff. We thought as a team sharing this information with our readers was an absolute must. We hope the vicious madness of “prom season” is in your favor.
