The Lakeview Academy volleyball program came away with the title in the Lakeview Invitational on Saturday in Gainesville. The Lady Lions topped Apalachee in the championship (25-14, 25-12).

Lakeview Academy advanced in the championship bracket with a win against Grayson (25-20, 16-25, 17-15). In pool play, the Lady Lions topped Johnson (25-12, 25-21), West Hall (28-8, 25-9) and Jefferson (25-16, 14-25, 15-12).

Bailey Towles led the charge for Lakeview with 40 assists, 23 aces and 16 digs. Katie White pumped in 33 kills and 37 digs with three aces, while Rachael Unger added 14 kills and two blocks.

Katie Gay notched 12 kills, 10 aces and 19 digs, Peaches Shipley had 10 kills, six aces and four blocks for Lakeview, and Delaney Jarrett contributed 27 assists, eight aces, and 10 digs. Schyler Miller had 29 digs and four aces for the Lady Lions.

Lakeview plays at home on Thursday against Shiloh and Gainesville.

Jefferson finished the day with a 2-2 mark. In pool play, the Lady Dragons beat Johnson and West Hall in straight sets.

For Jefferson, Abby Wood had 20 kills and 12 digs. Grace Williamson tallied 23 kills, 14 digs and 10 aces for the Lady Dragons, and Olivia Przybysz had 28 digs and three kills.

Johnson (9-17) went 2-4 with both of its wins coming against West Hall. Brook Balenger tallied 11 aces, 16 kills and three digs, Cassie Mcdonald had seven aces, 10 kills and seven digs and Grace Eidson had 21 aces, four kills, 29 assists and eight digs.

Jessica Panter added six aces, 12 kills and 2.5 blocks, while Julia Bowers had six aces and nine digs.

Johnson plays host to North Oconee and North Gwinnett on Tuesday.

BUFORD 7, HEARD COUNTY 2: Bria Bush allowed a pair of earned runs and collected six strikeouts from the pitching circle to earn the victory Saturday at Kennesaw State University.

Alexus Murray had two hits and three RBIs for the top-ranked Lady Wolves (14-1), and Breanna Gutierrez had a triple, two RBIs and two runs scored.

Tessa Daniels and Jordan Deep each had a pair of hits for the Lady Wolves. On Tuesday, Buford plays host to Stephens County at 6 p.m.

JEFFERSON SOFTBALL SPLITS SATURDAY ACTION: The Jefferson softball team split a pair of games Saturday in Bishop.

The Lady Dragons defeated Ola 7-4 with a four-run rally in the top of the seventh, then fell 7-1 to Veterans in their final game of the day.

Emily Dufty was 3 for 4 with a run scored in both games.

Cesyrea Cox (2 for 3, run, 2 RBI), Erin Jackson (2 for 4, run) and Caroline Mitchell (2 for 3, 2 runs, RBI) paced Jefferson offensively in the win.

Mitchell was the winning pitchers, allowing three earned runs on seven hits and a walk in a complete game.

Hope Dalton took the loss in the second contest, allowing five runs (two earned) on eights and a walk in three innings.

Olivia Husted allowed two earned runs on three hits and six walks while striking out two in three innings for the Dragons.

Jefferson plays at Oconee County on Thursday.
