High School Scoreboard: Gainesville falls to Wheeler in matchup of top teams

Gainesville High’s boys basketball team (12-4) fell to Wheeler (14-5), 82-69, Monday in a matchup between two of the top teams in the state.

The Red Elephants had five players in double-digits scoring.

D’Marcus Simonds, Michael White and Messiah Dorsey each scored 14 for the Red Elephants.

Gainesville’s KJ Buffen had 12, and Tae Turner scored 10.

Wheeler had five players in double-digits with the game-high scorer, Darius Perry, finishing at 21 points.

The Wildcats had two players with double-doubles.

Romello White had 15 points and 15 rebounds, while Al-Wajid Aminu scored 11 points and pulled down 10 rebounds.

Gainesville will host Winder-Barrow today with a 7:30 p.m. tip.

GAINESVILLE BOYS 65, SOUTH GWINNETT 29: The Red Elephants (11-3) were led by Simonds with 11 points in a 36-point victory Saturday against South Gwinnett (6-13).

Bailey Minor contributed nine points for Gainesville.
