Colleen Grider recorded 13 aces and 13 kills for Flowery Branch in wins over Cedar Shoals (25-9, 25-17) and Alcovy (25-15, 25-17) on Tuesday in Athens.
Katie Hall added four aces and a pair of kills for Flowery Branch, while Chanel Lear and Gabby Burke combined for 19 assists on the night. Autumn Luken had three kills.
The Lady Falcons return to action against Gainesville and Habersham Central on Thursday in Flowery Branch.
GAINESVILLE SPLITS TWO: Kaylin Walden led Gainesville with 64 assists on the night in a win over Rockdale County in three sets (25-12, 11-25, 25-20) and a loss to Oconee County (25-13, 25-20) on Tuesday in Watkinsville.
Stasha Hopkins added six kills for the Lady Red Elephants (7-3, 1-0 in Region 8-AAAAA).
Gainesville will play a tri-match with Flowery Branch and Habersham Central on Thursday in Flowery Branch.
CHESTATEE SWEEPS PAIR: Melanie Smith led the Lady War Eagles with 16 kills and five aces in wins over Lanier (18-25, 25-21, 25-17) and Madison County (25-11, 25-14) on Tuesday in Gainesville.
Madison Dunn recorded 21 assists and a had a six-point service run for Chestatee. Tyler Bennett added 12 assists and eight kills.
The Lady War Eagles travel to Athens Christian on Sept. 6 in Athens.
JOHNSON SPLITS TRI-MATCH: Kelly Chance had 20 assists and eight aces for Johnson in a win over Rabun County (25-21, 25-18) and a loss to Walnut Grove (23-25, 15-25) on Tuesday in Loganville.
LeJavian Ratliff added eight kills and four digs for the Lady Knights (7-4, 0-1 in Region 8-AAAA), and Karis Sloan and Savannah Turk tallied seven kills each.
Johnson travels to Duluth on Thursday for a tri-match with Duluth and East Hall.
LAKEVIEW BEATS TALLULAH FALLS: The Lady Lions (10-6) defeated Talullah Falls in straight sets (25-18, 25-15) on Tuesday in Gainesville.
Shelby Ross had seven kills and four aces for Lakeview, and Lilly Evans had four kills, two aces and two blocks. Bailey Towles and Hannah Ackerman each had six assists.
Lakeview plays host to Rabun County on Thursday in Gainesville.
HERITAGE LOSES TO ALLELUIA: Heritage Academy fell to Alleluia 25-8, 25-12, 25-12 on Tuesday. No other information about the match was provided.
West Hall senior Junior Iniguez won the boys’ race with a time of 17 minutes, 41 seconds at a five-team season opening meet on Tuesday at West Hall. White County’s Jenna Gearing took first place in the girls’ race with a time of 20:07.
White County saw four of their girls’ runners finish in the top six, while four of West Hall’s boys’ runners finished in the top eight.
In the girls meet, West Hall’s Taylor Long took second (21:34), and Ryan Sharry (21:45) finished fourth. White County’s Sinead O’Bryant came in third (21:43), and Kristen Mitchell was fifth (21:46).
Lanier’s Ervin Martinez (17:52) was second in the boys’ run, while Spartans Brandon Nguyen (17:55) and Ricardo Castruita (17:57) came in third and fourth, respectively. White County’s Austin Thompson (17:58) finished fifth.
The West Hall boys won the event with a team score of 37, and the White County girls took first place with a team score of 29.
White County returns to action at the University of Georgia Invitational on Sept. 1, while West Hall runs again at the War Eagle Invitational at Chestatee on Sept. 8.
CHESTATEE 5, TOWNS COUNTY 0 (MONDAY): Danielle Stephens went 2 for 2 for Chestatee, and Bridgette Kelly was 1 for 2 with an RBI on Monday in Gainesville.
