Gainesville High senior Hunter Mallard wins Class 6A state title in pole vault

Gainesville Hunter Mallard picked up his second state title in pole vault by finishing with a height of 16 feet in the Class 6A state championship Thursday in Grisham Stadium in Carrollton.

North Hall’s Mac Bennett was the runner-up in shot put, throwing 51-02.5 in the Class 3A state championship at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany. Also for the Trojans, Tommy Johnston was state runner-up in the 1600.

North Hall’s David Seid finished fifth in pole vault (12-6). Chestatee’s Lindsey Grater finished fourth in the Class 4A state championships with a time of 11:59.49 minutes in the 3200 meter in Rome.

Tija Blackwell finished fourth in the Class 6A high jump (5-4) for Gainesville.

Erika Plummer placed fourth in the 1600 with a time of 5:08 minutes for Flowery Branch in the Class 5A championship in Carrollton.
