Local golf: Shrader, Davidson tie for title at Chattahoochee

The Chattahoochee Men’s Golf Association played its annual low gross and low net championship tournament last Wednesday and Thursday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Billy Shrader and Stan Davidson, Jr. tied for the low gross title with two-day grosses of 163.

Paul Payne was the low net champion with a two-day net of 134.

Jack Costello finished in second place in the low net competition with a two-day net of 136, and Don Sorrell was third with a 137.

In the Wednesday-only individual net strokes competition, Denny Momper finished in first place and Gene Weschler, Roy Lyle, Ben Brooks and Rolf Legbandt all tied for second place.

Closest to the pin winners on Wednesday were Shrader (No. 3), Bob Allen (No. 5), Dave Gleason (No. 12) and Jimmy Johnson (No. 17). Shrader won closest to the pin for hole No. 3 again on Thursday, along with other winners Gary Palmer (No. 5), Bill Sutton (No. 12) and Davidson, Jr. (No. 17).

DPG: The Dedicated Players Group played matches on Monday, Wednesday and Friday last week at Chicopee Woods Golf Course.

On Monday, Charley Kilby won the event, Jim Julian came in second, and Terrence Dale and Bob Arendt tied for third.

Dale improved his score on Wednesday, finishing in first place, and Dennis Jones was second.

Henry Komoto took first place on Friday, Steve Knowles came in second, and Julian was third.
