Local golf: Brown leads at Rudolph Junior Golf Classic

Gainesville’s Pep Brown shot a first-round 72 and leads by two shots over Jackson Bishop in the 16-18 age group of the Rudolph Junior Golf Classic at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Brown shot a 35 on the front side, followed by 37 on the back nine. Lawson King and Webber Wycoff are tied for third at 75.

In the 14-15 age group, Spencer Ralston rolled off a first-day 72 to take a commanding nine-stroke lead.
John Jacobs and Keller Austin are tied for second with an 81.

Ryan Hogan shot an 81 to take a seven-shot lead in the 8-13 age group.

CMGA: Bill Sutton, Stu Virgin and Nick Grillo finished in first place in the Chattahoochee Men’s Golf Association’s two-best-ball, aggregated-net strokes game Wednesday at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Paul Payne, Dave Gleason and Gary Palmer came in second, and Don Sorrell, Denny Momper, Johnny Little and Eddie Johnson were third. Bob Henderson, J. B. Johnston and Ed Pledger finished in fourth place.

Closest to the pin winners were Virgin (No. 3), and Payne (No. 17).

DPG: The Dedicated Players Group played matches on Monday, Wednesday and Friday last week at Chicopee Woods Golf Course. Steve Knowles won the event on Monday, followed by Terrence Dale in second place and Dave Jetter in third.

Dennis Jones came in first on Wednesday and Knowles tied with Dwight Miller for second place.

Miller finished in first place on Friday, and Knowles and Jetter tied for second.
