Improvements to Gainesville’s historic Roosevelt Square, including landscaping and the eventual placement of a monument to public safety workers, could start later this month. The project will cost about $700,000, scaled back after construction costs came in higher than expected, said Barclay Fouts, project manager with the city’s Department of Water Resources. Still, visitors to the square that sits between the city administration building and the Brenau Downtown Center should see a spruced-up park-like area by late fall.
