Gainesville police today arrested a man suspected in a string of auto break-ins in the southeast part of town.

Milton Grant, 40, was arrested on a charge of loitering on Fair Street this morning, Gainesville Police Lt. Brian Kelly said.

Police later determined Grant was responsible for car break-ins on Mill Street, Summit Street, Wall Street, Boone Street and Jesse Jewell Parkway, Kelly said. The first break-in occurred on Jan. 11 and the last on Wednesday.

Grant was charged with six counts of entering auto and one count of theft by taking.

Attempts by police to recover property stolen during the break-ins are continuing, Kelly said.
