Some light snow flurries have been reported in the area.

The National Weather Service automated weather station at Gainesville's Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport reported light snow and a temperature of 35 degrees just before 6 p.m. Flurries also have been reported in the Cumming area.

The NWS forecast calls for a 20 percent chance of light snow and sleet tonight before 10 p.m., though no accumulation is expected in the Gainesville area. However some light accumulation up to a half-inch is possible in the higher elevations of the North Georgia mountains.

Motorists are advised to be cautious in areas where snow may make roadways slick or hamper visibility.

Temperatures are expected to drop to around 27 in Gainesville tonight with winds gusting up to 25 mph. Sunday will be clear and cold, with highs reaching the upper 40s and lows dipping back into the upper 20s Sunday night.

Rain is expected to return to the area Monday and through New Year's Day on Tuesday.
