A man entered a pie shop on Friday, May 10 claiming that he didn’t have enough money to purchase a pie, and then allegedly pulled a knife on an employee and left with more than $500 from the shop’s register, according to Gainesville police.
Police are investigating the armed robbery, which occurred around 5:45 p.m. at Southern Baked Pie Company in Gainesville.
Gainesville Police Chief Jay Parrish said a man came inside to buy a pie but “stated he didn’t have enough money.”
Parrish said he walked outside and reentered. When the employee turned to her side, the robber “pulled the knife (and) put it near her side.”
The robber reportedly told her he wouldn’t hurt her and demanded cash.
Parrish said the robber got $550 before running from the business.
A K-9 unit deployed to the area was unable to find the robber, Parrish said.
Owner Amanda Wilbanks said only an employee was in the store at the time.
“The best thing is that everybody’s OK, and we hope that the person does get caught,” she said.
Parrish said the robber was described as a heavier set black male.
No other details were released by police.
