Georgia Department of Transportation officials are warning motorists of weekend lane closures as work continues at the Interstate 85/985 split.
On I-85 in Gwinnett County, one southbound lane and one northbound lane will be closed using a rolling lane closure between Old Peachtree Road and the I-985 Interchange from 9 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. Saturday to allow contractors to continue with construction on the I-85 express lanes extension.
Construction crews will also pace traffic on I-85 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Thursday, weather permitting, to allow for blasting.
On I-85, northbound traffic pacing will take place after Old Peachtree Road to the entrance ramp at State Route 20/Buford Drive (from milepost 110 to 114). Southbound pacing will occur after the Hamilton Mill entrance ramp to the southbound bridge over I-985 (from milepost 120-113).
Additionally, entrance ramps at State Route 317 and State Route 20 will be blocked in both directions until the pacing has passed. Once the pacing is safely past the entrance ramps, motorists will be allowed to merge onto I-85.
Motorists are advised to slow down and proceed with caution through the work area; workers and heavy equipment will be in close proximity to the roadway.
