Jefferson couple indicted on animal cruelty charges

A couple from Jefferson are accused of beating two dogs to death, according to authorities. Byron Glenn Burgess, 53, and Valerie Dawn Burgess, 53, were charged Dec. 1 by a Hall County grand jury with two counts of cruelty to animals and one count of false statements to law enforcement. Their attorney David McLeod did not respond to multiple calls for comment Wednesday.
