Gainesville’s empty midtown jail may have a future as city officials mull a decision. Redevelopment could help pay off some debt by getting it on tax rolls, while also improving midtown area.
Jason Everett can barely stand to look at the jail in midtown Gainesville, but it’s hard not to notice on his way to work. “It’s an eyesore,” said Everett, owner of nearby Gainesville Flooring on Main Street. Removing the razor wire isn’t enough to change the look, he added.
