Eyes on the Road: Indiana bat has been a factor in Hall County

Hall County has had its own experience with the Indiana bat, which made headlines last week in the Atlanta media for its potential effect on road construction in the state. Civil engineer Jody Woodall said last summer that as part of required environmental work on the Sardis Connector project, Hall officials had to conduct a survey on the presence of the nocturnal creature. According to the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, the bat was listed an endangered species in 1967 “due to episodes of people disturbing hibernating bats in caves during winter and killing large numbers of bats.”
