Gainesville City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to increase its per diem meeting attendance pay from $125 to $150, while also increasing the number of meetings elected officials can be paid for each month from 10 to 12. The changes increase meeting pay for councilmembers and the mayor by a maximum of $300 a month. “This is certainly preferable instead of adding to our salary,” said Councilman George Wangemann, adding that he believes the per diem increase is “performance-based” because it is tied to the number of public meetings officials attend.
