When jumping from a bridge into a river just wasn’t an option, Sharon Hartis and a couple of her friends decided to tube down the Chattahoochee River in Helen instead for the Fasching River Parade and Party. “It’s a Bavarian version of Mardi Gras,” Hartis, the coordinator of the annual midwinter event. “It’s really just to generate interest and bring people to Helen. The first year we had three people and last year there were about 60 tubers.” This year, they’re hoping for even more.
