Following the celebration of Christmas Day, the Sautee Nacoochee Center will host its monthly contra dance Saturday, Dec. 27.

The dance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in the historic gymnasium at 283 Ga. 255 N. in Sautee Nacoochee.

Live music will fill the hall as caller Chrissy Davis-Camp starts off with a 30-minute lesson for newcomers. Dancers will learn a dozen simple steps and use them in varying combinations throughout the evening. Every dance is walked through a few times before the music starts.

Cattywampas is the band set to supply the music for the evening. It will include fiddler Tim Cape and guitarist Scott Russell, who are legendary musicians in the Atlanta contra dance scene. They will provide an eclectic mix of dance music with a hearty old-time core since the mid-1970s.

In addition, fiddler Jan Smith and bassist Pete Senkowski will back up the band as needed.

The dance does not have a dress code, but comfortable shoes are recommended. High heels are not recommended.

Admission is $9 for adults, $7 for SNCA members and $5 for students. Youth 12 and younger are admitted free with a supervising adult. Newcomers receive a coupon for the second dance free.
