The North Hall boys cross country team put three runners in the top five overall to claim the Region 7-3A championship Wednesday at Unicoi State Park in Helen. North Hall’s Andrew Jones (16 minutes, 11 seconds) took first place overall, while Noah Wagner (fourth, 16:20) and Bryce Hartis (fifth, 16:41) were also in the top five. Also qualifying for the state championship meet are second-place Dawson County, third-place Greater Atlanta Christian and fourth-place Cherokee Bluff.
Cherokee Bluff’s Kyle Boyd was sixth overall (16:41). Also in the top 10 were North Hall’s Lance Robinson (ninth, 16:59) and Matthew Hawn (10th, 17:00).
In the girls’ race, North Hall’s Caylee Wagner took first overall (18:55) as the Lady Trojans earned first place. Cherokee Bluff earned second with a second-overall finish from Sierra Wainer (20:06) and third from Adison Myers (20:15).
Also in the top 10 overall, North Hall’s Elissa Oliver took fifth place (21:32) and Cherokee Bluff’s Amelia Dovie took eighth overall (21:50).
In Region 8-5A, Johnson locked up a state berth with a second-place finish from the boys team and fourth from the Lady Knights. The Knights boys placed three runners in the top 10, led by Josh Flores (third, 17:04) and Luis Alvarado (fourth, 17:04).
Leading the Johnson girls was fifth-place Taylor Farmer (21:22).
The all-classification state meet opens Nov. 1 in Carrollton.
