ATLANTA — Versatile infielder Gordon Beckham, an Atlanta native and former University of Georgia standout, has agreed to a $1.25 million, one-year contract with the Braves.

Beckham announced the deal on his Twitter feed Wednesday: “Pretty amazing to grow up in Atlanta, go to UGA, and then put on the uniform of the @Braves. Trying to make sure I’m not dreaming..lets go!”

The Braves confirmed the agreement, which won’t become final until Beckham passes a physical.

Beckham has played third base, shortstop and second base in his eight-year career, almost all with the Chicago White Sox.

The 29-year-old Beckham, a .242 career hitter, hit only .209 with six homers and 20 RBIs with Chicago in 2015.
Beckham could compete with Adonis Garcia at third base, with Hector Olivera moving to left field.
