Johnson basketball sweeps Lumpkin County

Caitlin Sloan scored 25 points and pulled down four rebounds Tuesday as the Johnson girls basketball team defeated Lumpkin County 51-26 in Dahlonega.

Britteny Greene scored nine points and added four rebounds for Johnson (5-2), which opens play in the Lanierland Tournament at noon Monday against East Hall at Chestatee.

Emma Thomaswick scored nine to lead the Lady Indians, who play at 7 p.m. on Friday at Lambert.

JOHNSON BOYS 56, LUMPKIN COUNTY 48: The Knights jumped out to a 33-9 lead to start the game and held on for the win Tuesday in Dahlonega.

Johnson (6-1) was led by Matt Hollis with 31 points and Jalen Bowens with 12.

The Knights open play in the Lanierland Tournament at 10:30 a.m. Monday against Flowery Branch at Chestatee.

BANKS COUNTY GIRLS 53, STEPHENS COUNTY 50: Led by Taylor Kennedy’s 23 points, the Lady Leopards won Tuesday in Homer.

Madison Franklin added 15 points for Banks County (5-4), which plays White County at 4:15 p.m. Friday at Piedmont College.

Wrestling

CHESTATEE TOPS WEST HALL: The War Eagles secured wins in the final two matches of the night and a 36-32 victory against the Spartans on Tuesday. Scoring a pin for Chestatee were Cody Etris (140 pounds), Roberto Castrutia (160) and Aaron Anderson (215).

Daniel Moreno (171) won by a decision for the War Eagles and Jose Reyes (103) won by a technical fall. For West Hall, Omar Lopez (125) and Tanner Yates (145) won by pins. Christan Sepulveda (119), Logan Herford (152) and Julio Chavez (285) all won by decision for the Spartans.

EAST HALL EARNS TWO WINS: The Vikings defeated Riverside Military, 45-42, and George Walton Academy, 42-22, on Tuesday at Riverside.

Cristian Vergara, Carlos Negron, Taylor Echols, Cody Suderman, JD Holloway, Robert Williams, Salvador Rivera, Kintavious Johnson, Martin Becerra, Edward Vergara, Jose Escobedo and Gabriel Yopp all earned victories for East Hall, which visits Lumpkin County at 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Saturday for the John Smith Mountain Classic.
