Annabelle Thomas defeated her opponent in straight sets in No. 1 singles (6-0, 6-0) as the Flowery Branch girls tennis team didn’t drop a single game en route to a 5-0 sweep of Loganville on Thursday in Loganville.
Also winning in singles for the Lady Falcons were Olivia Correa (6-0, 6-0) and Olivia Nance (6-0, 6-0), who each recorded straight-set victories. Brenna Martin/Alyssa McSpadden won in No. 1 doubles for Flowery Branch in two sets (6-0, 6-0) while teammates Kendalle Quast/Alicia Quast won in No. 2 doubles (6-0, 6-0). Flowery Branch moves to 14-1 and 5-0 in Region 8-5A play.
JOHNSON BOYS 3, CLARKE CENTRAL 2: Garrett McCarthy was the No. 1 singles winner for Johnson, edging his opponent in three sets (6-0, 6-7, 6-4) to boost the Knights to a region win.
Also winning in singles for the Knights was Bud Abercrombie in No. 2 singles (6-2, 6-3). Johnson’s No. 1 doubles tandem of AJ Buendia/Wyatt Abercrombie won a contested match in straight-set fashion (7-6, 7-5).
Johnson faces Flowery Branch on Tuesday.
JOHNSON GIRLS 4, CLARKE CENTRAL 1: Perla Rivera earned a win for Johnson in singles (6-1, 8-7).
Also winning in singles for the Lady Knights were Anna Cooper (6-4, 6-1) and Morgan Langley (6-1, 6-2). Isa Martinez/Haley Grimes won in doubles (6-1, 6-2) for Johnson.
FANNIN COUNTY BOYS 3, NORTH HALL 2: Adam Turcotte/Ethan Surles won in No. 1 doubles (6-0, 6-2) for North Hall on Thursday.
Forrester Terry/Brantley Moore added another doubles victory for the Trojans in the No. 2 doubles slot. North Hall falls to 5-6 overall with a 2-2 mark in Region 7-3A play.
NORTH HALL GIRLS 4, FANNIN COUNTY 1: Sydney Patterson won the No. 1 singles match for North Hall in straight sets (6-0, 6-1) on Thursday.
Baylee Turner got the Lady Trojans a No. 2 singles victory in straight sets (6-0, 6-1). Carsen Baumgardner was the No. 3 singles winner (6-0, 6-1) for North Hall. Lauren Davis/Christen Barnes won in No. 1 doubles (6-0, 6-0) for the Lady Trojans, who improve to 9-2 and 4-0 in Region 7-3A.
NORTH HALL BOYS 4, LUMPKIN COUNTY 1: Masa Kobayashi was the No. 1 singles winner (6-4, 6-3) for North Hall on Wednesday.
Christian Boychuk defeated Aaron Daugherty in No. 2 singles (6-1, 6-0) for the Trojans. Kody Dills was another winner for North Hall, defeating his opponent in straight sets in No. 3 singles (6-2, 6-1). Adam Turcotte/Ethan Surles won the only doubles match for North Hall in No. 1 doubles, defeating their opponents in straight sets (6-1, 6-0).
Chriss Reed/Seb Hunsinge won at No. 2 doubles for Lumpkin County, defeating Forrester Terry/Jackson Roush in straight sets (7-5, 6-2).
NORTH HALL GIRLS 4, LUMPKIN COUNTY 1: Christen Barnes won the No. 2 singles match for North Hall, defeating Marisa Miller in straight sets (6-0, 6-0) on Wednesday.
Carsen Baumgardner took the No, 3 singles match, winning in straight sets (6-4, 6-4) for the Lady Trojans. Lauren Davis/Baylee Turner won in No. 1 doubles (6-1, 6-0) for North Hall, while teammates Raquel Kallab/Ella Oxley won in No. 2 doubles (6-2, 6-0). Lumpkin County’s Izzy Kinard prevented the sweep, sealing her No. 1 singles win in a second-set tiebreaker (6-3, 7-6).
