Gainesville High’s Sara Hayes won the state title in the pentathlon for the Lanier Running Club during the state Junior Olympic Championships last weekend in Fayetteville. The Lanier Running Club placed 13 athletes in the Top 5 and qualified for the region competition.

Second place finishers included Gainesville’s Marquel Woodard (decathlon), Buford’s Noah Alexander (mini javelin), Hayes and Flowery Branch’s Kenny Slavik (steeple chase), Chestatee’s Tori Mullinax placed (3,000 meter run), Gainesville’s Trey McKeithen (long jump), North Hall’s Gil Hoffman (triple jump).

The regional competition is July 7 at Mill Creek High in Hoschton.
