The University of North Georgia softball program closed out play Sunday in the Gulf Coast Invitational with a 10-2 win against Delta State and 8-0 victory against Mississippi College in Gulf Shores, Ala.
In Game 1, Buford High graduate Bria Bush allowed two hits and two runs over four innings from the circle. Stephanie Hartness, Alishia Frierson, Sydney Sprague, Jessica Finch and Lexi Duncan all had multiple-hit performances for the Nighthawks.
In Game 2, Hartness had a two-run, walk-off home run to achieve a run-rule victory in the sixth inning for North Georgia. Finch and Hannah McSwain had two-run hits for the Nighthawks in the first inning.
North Georgia returns to action in the Steak-n-Shake Classic against an opponent still to be determined Friday at Haines and Carolyn Hill Stadium in Dahlonega.
NORTH GEORGIA 17, CARSON-NEWMAN 0: Trevor Sams connected on a three-run home run for the Nighthawks, while Lumpkin County High graduate Daniel McCrary pitched 6 1/3 scoreless innings for the win Sunday in Dahlonega.
Michael Bell and Steven Tomlinson each had a solo homer for North Georgia to complete the three-game sweep to open the season. On Wednesday, North Georgia visits Southern Wesleyan in Central, S.C.
