As we enjoy our Fourth of July gatherings, I think it would be good to recognize that it is not the fourth we celebrate, but Independence Day.This holiday has special significance for me because my birthday is July 3. According to family legend, my parents had agreed to give me the first name of Independence if I had been born on the Fourth. I have often tried to imagine life as Independence Day rather than Tom Day.Independence Day, the day our forefathers signed the Declaration of Independence, is so much more than backyard barbecues and fireworks displays.
Letter: On Independence Day, we celebrate freedom and divine blessings
