Letter: Dawsonville Highway needs more than just cosmetic fixes
0604Road2
Traffic crowds Dawsonville Highway/ Ga. 53 near the North Lake Square shopping center.
Dawsonville Highway traffic is nearing critical mass as a result of increasing development in the corridor between Lake Lanier and the McEver Road intersection. And now the city is proposing to add a projected 6,700 daily vehicle trips to the corridor, from a 900-residence development by Oak Hall Companies and development of seven commercial parcels along the highway itself. People who have reviewed the traffic studies think the real number is closer to 10,000 trips per day, because the 1.8 percent traffic growth projections used by the city are defective and underestimate the real rate of growth, which is about 9.8 percent.
