Water main break causes traffic delays

A water main break caused this damage on Ga. 11/U.S. 129 on Monday.

Georgia Department of Transportation crews worked to repair a water main under Ga. 11/U.S. 129 near Casper Drive on Monday night, leading to traffic delays.

DOT district spokeswoman Katie Strickland said “the water main burst and the water washed out the subgrade underneath the asphalt. This caused the asphalt to collapse.” Drivers in both directions were directed by flagging operators for at least part of the night, Strickland said.

“Be advised, U.S. 129 will be gravel overnight at this location and until final repairs can be completed weather-permitting,” Strickland wrote in an email after 9 p.m. Monday.
